Burningfang padded quietly along near the stream marking the place where ShadowClan's territory ended and ThunderClan's began. He'd been on a hunting trip, and after having caught several pieces of freshkill, decided to go on a walk. The pine needles covering the forest floor deadened the sound of his pawsteps as he walked along, lost in his thoughts.
I'm awfully close to the ThunderClan border, he thought to himself, casting a worried glance over the stream. I hope no cat finds me and accuses me of being up to something. An honest cat, Burningfang had no ill intentions for his walk, but as a ShadowClan warrior he was used to the warriors of other clans being overly suspicious of him. The ginger tom heard a twig break on the other side of the stream, and he glanced around, his ears pricked to catch any further disturbances.

A blazing white she-cat with the most vibrant crystal blue eyes silently padded along the border of ShadowClan. She made no sound as she moved. She gave no attention to anything in her path, as she herself was lost in thought. She was thinking about him. The one cat she had dreamed of sinking her claws into from the very first time she'd seen him in battle. Taintedheart. He'd killed the one cat that had any faith in her as a small kit.
With a small and silent sigh, she weaved her way through the undergrowth. Until she came along to one part of the stream. A place that held beauty in greenleaf and leafbare. But to her, it held bad memories. This was the place her fathers life was taken from her. "Father... I promise... I will be the warrior you said I could be..." She half whispered to herself, and sat down with her head bowed.

Burningfang's breath caught in his chest as a beautiful white she-cat stepped out of the undergrowth on ThunderClan's side of the border. He watched her carefully, but she didn't seem to notice him. Instead, she sat next to the stream with her head bowed, seeming to be rather depressed as she spoke quietly to herself. Her words were too quiet for Burningfang to hear.
Though he knew it was none of his business, the she-cat's demeanor intrigued him, so he went to the edge of the stream across from her, and called across the water.
"Excuse me, is something troubling you?" he asked, his voice gentle and soothing. He didn't stop to think that, being a ThunderClan cat, the warrior probably would not be very appreciative of his concern.

Solarstorm was snapped from her thoughts when she heard the voice of another cat, and looked up a little startled. She saw it was a ShadowClan warrior who stood just across the stream. She recognized him to be Burningfang, a cat she'd seen at clan meetings before. She had heard the words he said, and replied. "Oh, I'm alright... I'm sorry, pardon my behavior. I suppose I'm a little lost in thought." She replied politely. Unlike many and most of the ThunderClan cats, she didn't show any hostility towards other clan cats. Not unless they showed threat.

Burningfang smiled gently at the she-cat across the stream, to show her he meant no harm. Now that she'd looked at him, he recognized her. How could he not? Her eyes were not the sort of color any tom could forget easily.
"That's alright, I'm not bothered. Many a cat has lost themselves in the depths of their minds from time to time," he replied. "Your name is Solarstorm, isn't it? I recognize you from the Gatherings; you're the ThunderClan deputy, correct?" He shifted his weight slightly, his muscles moving smoothly beneath his bright orange pelt.

Solarstorm gave a small nod and a slight soft smile. It would be hard to not know the deputy of any clan. She was glad that she had been found by a friendly ShadowClan cat, and not one that would accuse her of something malicious. "Yes. Burningfang, if I remember correctly, right?" She asked, lightly tilting her head to the side a bit.

Burningfang's smile increased slightly as Solarstorm asked if she had his name right. He couldn't help it; it just happened for some reason. "Yes, that's correct," he mewed, his thoughts flashing momentarily to his brother, Taintedheart. The other tom had some connection with this she-cat; Burningfang had found out that much from the dirty looks passed between his brother and the ThunderClan deputy during Gatherings. But he'd never found out exactly why the two hated each other. As far as he knew or could tell, Solarstorm knew nothing about his relationship with Taintedheart, and Burningfang could find no reason to inform her of it now.
"May I ask, though, what the deputy is doing all alone, so close to the border?" he asked, his voice merely interested and showing no malice.

The white she-cat seemed to hold no hostility what-so-ever, and gently wrapped her tail over her paws. "Oh, I'm just out thinking. I've finished with my duties today, so I had nothing else to do, after arranging the sun down patrol." She replied. The light gently shone down upon her glistening white fur, and brightened the beautiful blue eyes she had.

Burningfang dipped his head in acknowledgement. As she spoke, the sun changed angles ever so slightly, causing the light to shine on the ThunderClan cat's fur and illuminate her bright blue eyes. Once again, the ShadowClan tom felt his breath catch a bit in his chest as he looked at her.
"Does the prey run well in Thunderclan, then?" he asked her. Burningfang knew that he shouldn't be sitting on the border chatting the day away with the ThunderClan deputy, but a part of him didn't want to leave her, and not just because of the possibility that she could cross the border. Often, he and his friends in various clans had discussed she-cats, talking about which had the best personality, or which was the most beautiful. Solarstorm was brought up frequently in such conversations, as she was well-known to be beautiful in both appearance and manners. Burningfang had not known from experience, of course, but so far her reputation had yet to meet up with the real thing. She was several times more beautiful than he'd heard or been able to see from his position at the Gathering, blocked by many other cats.

Solarstorm gave him a friendly smile, and also dipped her head in respect. "Prey is well here, and ShadowClan?" She asked kindly. Solarstorm knew that sometimes her kindness could get her into trouble, though this time, something told her that kindness would take her to a better place then expected. Burningfang didn't seem like a bad cat. He was being curtious and had no hostility that she could sense. Little did she know that this kind hearted tom, was related by blood to the one who brutally murdered her father.

Burningfang smiled. "Prey runs well here as well. The slightly colder temperatures have affected us slightly, but not by much. ShadowClan is as strong as ever," he said, puffing his chest out a bit as he did so. The ginger tom was extremely proud of his clan, as many cats in not only ShadowClan but the other clans as well could tell you. He fluffed up his fur as a chilly breeze blew through the clearing, making the longish, darker-colored fur around his neck pouf up, giving him what looked like a mane.

Solarstorm smiled kind of amused by the "mane" Burningflame seemed to have obtained with the wind. But she was glad that ShadowClan seemed to be doing well. Just because she despised one cat in that clan, it didn't mean she hated them all. "Hn, yes. I can tell by how fit you all seemed to be at the last clan meeting." She replied to him with a small but friendly and sweet smile.

Burningfang was grateful for his bright fur, which hid his slight blush as he gave his chest a quick, embarrassed but proud lick. "Indeed; your clan was looking quite fit as well," he responded to her praise, returning the compliment. Shaking his fur a bit, he continued, "It seems that it may be a fairly mild leafbare this time around. I certainly hope so; it would give all the clans a well-deserved rest."

Solarstorm's expression was kind, as she gave a nod in responce to his words. That certainly did seem true. Leaf bare hadn't been all that harsh this time. No real blizzards or storms. The prey hadn't vanished and it seemed to be rather plentiful, despite the cold weather. "I agree. Each clan seems to have been working hard." She replied. Her tone was soft and gentle. She seemed calm and kind, though deep inside, this spot where they sat was making her feel a bit darkened.
