Name: Berrykit Berrypaw
Clan: Shadowclan
Age: Six moons
Gender: She-cat
Rank: Apprentice
Description: Long-coated, Berrypaw looks much larger than she really is. In actuality, she’s a rather petite cat. Shorter than average, her body is similarily slim and compact. Her movements are light and lithe thanks to a natural grace that’s become more pronounced as she’s aged.
Berrypaw’s pelt is made up of a distinctive patch-work. White extends over most of her small body, with scant but large tabby spots decorating over her back, chest, and face. The tabby patches are a light, tawny colour, and their stripes a darker, rich shade of brown. Fluffy in the extreme, her fur is long and thick and soft, like downy feathers.
Perhaps her finest feature, Berrypaw has beautiful eyes: twin pools of liquid amber that, when the light hits them the right way, shine like gold.
Personality: Upbeat and bubbly, it’s hard to keep Berrypaw in a sour mood for long. Her capacity for resilience is boundless. She’s cheerful and friendly, always there when a friend needs her, or any clan mate for that matter. It’s impossible for her to hold grudges for very long, though while she is holding one, you’d better watch out. She’s may be little but she’s fierce.
Her bright attitude doesn’t mean she’s a push-over. Spunky and tenacious, Berrypaw is one to speak her mind, even when she shouldn’t. She’s stubborn, with a black and white view of the world that isn’t often changed. This said, she has a high respect for the Warrior Code and all it stands for, catagorizing the whole of it's content in the 'white' side of her perspective.
Small as she is, Berrypaw often feel like she has to prove herself. Hungry as any young apprentice, she’s excited to learn, though she’s more eager to practice hunting skills than to learn battle moves. Even as a kit she avoided play-fighting, an avoidance of violence that has only become stronger with age.
Family: Weedwhisker father; rogue Brownstripe mother; shadowclan Applekit sister; starclan
History: kithood Berrykit and her sister Applekit came into the world one cold leaf-fall morning. Her mother, a sweet and attentive she-cat named Brownstripe, couldn’t have been prouder. She adored her kits from the moment she laid eyes on them. However, Weedwhisker, her father, was less than pleased. The warrior had wanted sons, but eventually he decided that daughters would do.
An ambitious tom, Weedwhisker had plans for his kits. Unaware of these plans, Berrykit only knew this: ever since she could remember, her father would take her and her sister out of camp and give them fighting lessons. Berrykit didn’t really like these lessons of theirs, not one to even enjoy tussling games, but if she tried not to go or complained her father would get very angry. He was a scary cat when he was angry.
One day, when Berrykit and her sister were three moons old, Weedwhisker came into the nursery fuming. Brownstripe had gone to get a drink, so the kits were alone when their father stormed in. He announced that he was going to test them today, see if they could be real warriors. Once they reached the clearing where they trained in secret, Weedwhisker spun on his daughter and told them to defend themselves before lunging at them. Needless to say, two kits are no match for a warrior.
Berrykit quickly realized this wasn’t like any other day and their father wasn’t going to hold up once they lost. If they lost, they would lose their lives, and there was no way they were going to win. Fearing for her own and her sister’s life, Berrykit did the only thing she could. She ran.
By the time she convinced the warriors in camp to follow her, it was too late for Applekit. With Weedwhisker standing over her body and with Berrykit’s testimony, it was impossible for him to claim innocence, though he tried. Weedwhisker was exiled, and Berrykit never saw him again.
apprenticeship So far, Berrypaw’s apprenticeship has been uneventful. Having just turned six moons, she is a new apprentice, bright and excited to be a good warrior for her clan and for her sister. On the day of her apprentice ceremony, she kept thinking about Applekit, not mournfully but as a way to keep her with her. Berrypaw told her mother that she could practically feel Applekit standing beside her, and that was almost as good as the real thing.
