Sunlight began trickling its way into camp. Quiet but alive, the cats of Thunderclan moved about, the night guards heading into the warrior den to rest while other warriors left their warm nests for dawn patrols. This early in the day, everyone that was up had a purpose for being so, so little attention was paid to a small kit slipping silently from the nursery.
Morningkit thought herself quite clever, sneaking out while her mother and siblings slept. She was often the first to stir, but normally she waited around for her brother and sister to join her in the waking world, content to patiently wait and watch the sunrise quietly from the nursery entrance.
Mornings were her favourite time of day. She supposed this was because the two shared a name, but that was only a guess. After all, she liked twilight almost as much. Perhaps it was because the sky always looked so pretty whenever the sun came and left, painting the sky any number of purple and orange and pink shades. Whatever the reason, she loved them.
This particular morning, Morningkit did not feel like waiting patiently at the nursery entrance. No, an idea had formed in her head, one that niggled and nagged at her until she could no longer ignore it. She was going to watch the sunrise from Highledge.
This would not be an easy feet. She was, after all, a little scrap. Standing at the base of the rock mass, Morningkit felt she may as well have been looking up at a mountain. She grinned at that thought. Climbing a mountain would surely be something to brag about. What other kit would dare be brave or strong enough to accomplish such a feet, other than the noble Morningkit of Thunderclan?
Puffing up her chest, a determined expression set on her face, Morningkit began to climb. [/blockquote]

Across from the clearing, a tom watched in amusement as his kit stared up the rocky path to the highledge. Dark green eyes gleamed in amusement. Morningkit, though the smallest, most definitely had the biggest dreams. He watched in amusement as she grinned at the immobile rocks and pebbles. To him, it looked like the grin of a challenge. It looked to him like she was just daring the mountain to try and defy her 'sheer epic awesomeness'.
Froststep snorted to himself at the thought. Yeah, that'd be just like his youngest daughter to think like that. Still, he approached his kit from behind just as she started to climb. Watching silently for about half a minute, he meowed flatly with a grin, "Having fun, Morningkit?"

It wasn’t long before Morningkit realized this climb was going to be easier than she had expected. Not that she had expected it to be that hard, she correct in her mind. She was, after all, a very skilled kit in her own books. None-the-less the young she-kit was mildly disappointed to find herself half-way up to the ledge without complication. She had hoped for a challenge.
"Having fun, Morningkit?"
Morningkit froze, trying to decipher the tone of the voice. Was she in trouble? She couldn’t tell. Slowly she turned her head. Her concerns vanished as she spied the grin on her Froststep’s face and she resisted the urge to flash one back at him. Instead she straightened her posture, lifting her head in what she thought was a dignified stance.
"Fun’s for games," the small cream-and-ginger kit said in a tone used by kits and parents alike while trying to explain something to each other, something like a mixture of patience, amusement, and condescension. A smile crept onto her face. "I’m practicing."

She froze after he spoke and slowly turned to face him. Froststep saw the relief visibly in her relaxed shoulders, and wondered if she thought that he'd be angry. Technically, she wasn't breaking any rules, so why would she think she was in trouble? He chuckled in response to her words about practice and teased, "What, you expect to see the leader frequently when you're an apprentice? I'm not sure how much I like that plan, since apprentices usually only see the leader when they're in trouble."
Of course, he knew full-well she meant practicing for being leader herself one day. Morningkit truly did dream big for being the runt of the litter. Not that he'd ever tell her that, StarClan knows how she'd react to being called the runt, even though she was. Sometimes she was as unpredictable as her mother...
