What in Starclan’s name are two-legs thinking? Berrypaw wondered as she stared at the structure that reached into the lake. She could understand the nature of bridges, or rather she’d been told about them and their usefulness, but the half-bridge was a mystery to her. It just went a little into the water and stopped. Had the two-legs tried to build a bridge across the lake before realizing that it would be easier simple to walk around it? (A conclusion, she noted, that a cat would have come to immediately). Or did it have some purpose, holding untold amounts of importance that Berrypaw simply wasn’t clever enough to understand?
The half-bridge vexed her with its inexplicableness, and had since she’d first seen it while her mentor was showing her the territory. She knew it was wrong, but she couldn’t help sneaking out of camp to catch another look at it, eager to unravel the truth behind it.
However, Berrypaw soon realized none of her questions would be answer if she stayed posed at the edge of the trees as she was. The nature of the half-bridge wasn’t going to pop up inside her head and politely announce itself. No, if she wasn’t answers, the young she-cat would have to find them herself.
Moving quickly and quietly and close to the ground, Berrypaw swiftly covered the distance between the treeline and the half-bridge, and before she could even paused to question whether or not it was safe, she stepped onto the wooden planks.
